CHARITY Kennards Boxes In Abundance

I n light of the recent devastation in Fiji from Cyclone Winston, Kennards Self Storage had a number of requests from charities and individuals needing boxes to pack and ship donated goods received. Kamil Lakshman a Wellington Lawyer launched an appeal for goods to be donated and shipped to Fiji to help the residents that have been affected. Kamil approached our Wellington Storage Centre in New Zealand asking for Kennards boxes, which we gladly obliged, donating 60 boxes. On March 12th a full shipping container of donated goods made its way to Fiji. Connected Inc a Not For Profit organisation providing relief to people and families in need also went to task collecting donated goods and also raising funds to buy food to be delivered to families in Fiji. Kennards donated 200 boxes to help their cause.

Books For Fiji also approached us from the Northern Beaches asking our Brookvale centre for boxes to ship books to Fiji. 90 donated Kennards Boxes made packing a lot easier for Joanne and the volunteers. Sharon Dux EA to MD Toni & Guy Do More Than Cut Hair!

The organisation then partnered with Toni & Guy, accepting donations to be given to the community, from second hand clothes to kids items, sewing materials and more. These items will be used to create a ‘pop up Op Shop’ in the community, aiding the community’s business efforts and harnessing all the funds to facilitate the women’s trade education in a newly established Art Centre. The drive was an instant success, with the project’s initial social media announcement gaining roughly 25,000 shares in just 48 hours. Many Toni & Guy salons became donation drop-off points, while Kennards Self Storage came on board to provide donated storage space, utilising eight Kennards facilities throughout Australia. These centres became the hub for packaging and shipment to the Northern Territory during March. Discounted Kennards Boxes were also used to pack all the donated goods in. The initiative saw over 500 boxes of clothing, shoes, patterns, materials and sewing machines head to Jilkminggan at the beginning of April. Sharon Dux EA to MD

S upport Aboriginal women in the remote Northern Territory of Jilkminggan and help them launch their own social enterprise. This was the small idea that Tanya from Enterprise Learning Projects and Kelly from Toni & Guy Bondi Junction embarked upon several weeks ago, not knowing it would end up a huge success nationally. The idea was born from Enterprise Learning Projects’ trip to Jilkminggan in February. There, the women of the community shared their ideas for business and expressed their desire to develop their existing skills in sewing and print making, as well as to provide work opportunities and economic growth for the entire community.
