A Little Goes A Long Way

It’s True, Kindness Is Catching!

“I am so very excited to see the huge amount that Kindness Is Catching (KiC) has ended up with this year with its Winter Warmers Appeal! Our community has so much love to give, it’s incredible!

I put up a poster at school and over a short period I collected more than 50 pairs of shoes and bags of warm tops. I sorted through these clothes and any that were not warm enough or did not suit the Homeless Connect criteria I donated to St Vincent de Paul.

“Hi, I am Gus van Aanholt, I am in Year 6 and during my school holidays I watched an advertisement that made me aware that children not just adults experience homelessness. This shocked me so I decided to do a little more research and found out that over 17,000 children under the age of 10 are experiencing homelessness in Australia. Further research revealed an active organisation called ‘Homeless Connect’. I made a Pledge to help on their website and they contacted me letting me know that in regards to clothing what was most needed for children was good quality warm jumpers and shoes.

Thank you so much to Kennards Self Storage Brookvale and Sharon from Kennards Self Storage Head Office, for coordinating the use of a Kennards storage unit to hold all the donated goods, and to Dominic from Smart Move Removals and Storage Special- ists for all the big boxes, as well as transport of everything to the Sydney Homeless Connect Event . Without all your support, this project would have been so much harder. Your companies are very kind, thank you! I will be saying this same thing on KiC’s social media as well so that the public know how wonderful you all are. I can’t wait to hand these Winter Care Kits, beanies, scarves and other out to those who need them on Tuesday, with my wonderful KiC volunteer Team.

I would like to especially thank Kennards Self Storage for donating Boxes and Bags to collect and donate these articles to Homeless Connect. In this process I have come to realise how lucky I am and how easy it can be to help others.
